Before I go in to the points on working for your self, I want to address some points on working for others at age 50 or older and job hunting in particular. America and most of the westernized world are very youth oriented and see little value in the experience of the workers over 50 . At times, many hiring managers are in the 30's or 40's, think of them selves as "young" and give little consideration to hiring someone older than them selves.

As such if you are a worker over 50 and you are forced out of a job by business closure or other economic down turns you will need to think of the interview process differently then you did 20 years ago.

Some good news for older worker over 50 is that , in the United States at least, workers over 50 are being hired over younger ones, according the Bureau of Labor Statistics No longer is it fashionable to not hire someone due to race or even age, but both still happen, consider altering the way you approach the interview process.

1.If you are a worker over 50, Emphasize the results of your experience, not just the number of years.

Hiring managers are results oriented, so define your work experience in terms of what you accomplished and not just how long your did such and such job.

2. Rework your resume.

Provide only the job info that is relevant to the job you are applying for, adjust each resume to suite each new job you apply for. This is not cheating, it's giving the buyer what they want.
